That is a good question, because you may THINK you are stretching, but in actuality you are not helping your muscles and joints at all. Whereas many professionals feel that you should stretch your muscles and hold that stretch for 15 seconds, new studies show that you will not get the maximum benefit from this. In fact... some show you may not get any significant results. If you want to really help yourself you need to stretch and hold for 30 seconds. Anything less than 20 seconds will not make a significant difference in lengthening your muscle fibers and tissue. The American College of Sports Medicine advises stretching your major muscle groups two or three days a week. How often do you stretch?
